What Pen Wiki is

Pen Wiki is run by a Swiss company (commercial register; info@penwiki.com). It has two parts:

  • Pen Wiki in VS Code — free. Open any Markdown file, comment on it, generate documents from your own guides. Nothing leaves your machine until you share a page; your code never does.
  • Pen Wiki for Teams — the web. Your project becomes a wiki, its Markdown files folder by folder; you share it, review it with others, and the team's comments reach your machine. 14 days free, then $8 a month per active person.

Your AI, your account

Pen Wiki has no AI of its own. The work is done by the coding agent you installed and pay for yourself — Claude Code or Codex CLI — on your machine, under your own agreement with its maker (Anthropic or OpenAI). Pen Wiki is a plugin for that agent: it uses the agent's documented hooks and MCP tools to hand it a task and to receive its answer, in the agent's own, unmodified program, signed in by you through the vendor's own flow. It never charges for AI, never calls an AI provider for your work, never reads, stores or forwards your agent's login or tokens, and never changes the agent. AI changes only run when you request or approve them. The one model our servers call is an embedding model on Amazon Bedrock that builds the search index of your pages: it writes no text and trains no model.

What you write is a prompt to your own agent. It can act on your machine as if you had typed it into the agent's terminal, with your rights to your files and code — think it through the same way. What others write does not run by itself: a comment someone else leaves on your page waits, marked as theirs, until you run it. A batch is several sessions. Run all on the Project Health page starts one session after another on your own account. Pen Wiki asks you first and names what it will run, and before each later session it asks again; nothing starts unasked. Your plan's fair-use limits apply. Vendors' consumer terms restrict automated access and may treat unattended runs as programmatic use; both vendors recommend an API key for such work, and we recommend it too — run batches with an API key, not a consumer subscription. You confirm that your plan and your vendor's terms allow the way you use your agent through Pen Wiki, including any business use: consumer plans are often for personal, non-commercial use, and a company should use a business plan or API keys. Pen Wiki has asked neither vendor for a statement on its use and gives no assurance that any use is permitted; if your plan or terms do not allow a use Pen Wiki makes possible, do not use Pen Wiki for it. Pen Wiki names the agents in plain words and uses no vendor logo; it is not made, endorsed by or partnered with Anthropic or OpenAI. We charge for the Pen Wiki for Teams service, never for AI, and we promise neither that any AI tool works with Pen Wiki nor that it stays available.

Your content

What you write is yours. In Pen Wiki for Teams you give us the right to store it, show it to the people you share it with, and process it as described here — nothing more. Two circles: your space is private to you and the people you add to it (they see its pages, comments and page history); a page is public only if you publish it — then anyone with its link can read it, until you unpublish it. Post nothing you have no right to and nothing unlawful. Deleting a page removes it, its history and comments from the live service at once and from backups within 30 days; deleting your account removes everything of yours the same way.

Payment

Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see your card. Pen Wiki for Teams is free for 14 days from your first sign-in. After that it is billed monthly, after each month, $8 for each person who used Pen Wiki in that month — fair billing: there are no seats to buy; a person counts for a month when they logged in from VS Code or opened Pen Wiki for Teams at least once in it; a person who did not use it that month costs nothing. The subscription continues until you cancel; cancelling stops further charges, the current month is billed. Prices are in US dollars, excluding VAT where it applies. Until payment opens, nothing is charged; we tell you by email at least 30 days before the first charge. Invite someone: when they pay their first month, you get three months free.

Account, liability, law

You sign in with a code sent to your email: whoever has your mailbox has your account. We run the service carefully but promise no availability; keep the Markdown that matters in your own repository (Pen Wiki is built for that). AI output can be wrong — you decide what you keep. We are liable without limit for intent, gross negligence and injury to life or health; otherwise our liability is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event, and excludes indirect damage and lost profit, as far as Swiss law allows. You may stop at any time; we may suspend accounts that break these terms or the law. Material changes are announced by email before they take effect. Swiss law applies; the courts of Zürich have jurisdiction, unless mandatory law says otherwise.

Privacy

Roles. For your account and for Pen Wiki for Teams as a service we are the controller. For the documents, comments and files your team puts into its workspace, you (your company) are the controller and we process them on your instructions — this notice is also the processing agreement for that: we process them only to run the service, we tell you without undue delay of a breach, and we delete them when you do. Legal basis where the GDPR applies: the contract with you; our legitimate interest in running and securing the service (logs); your consent where we ask for it.

What we process. Account: email, name, your workspaces and team, when you last used Pen Wiki for Teams, your settings. Content: the pages in Pen Wiki for Teams with their history and comments, attached files, and what you send as feedback. Machine: whether a chat of your coding agent is connected, and the one-line result of each job it ran for a shared page or a teammate's comment — never your code, your files or the agent's full reply. Payment: Stripe's customer and subscription ids — never card numbers. Technical: sign-in codes (minutes) and server logs (30 days) to run and secure the service. Pen Wiki in VS Code sends us nothing unless you log in to Pen Wiki for Teams.

Where, and who helps. Amazon Web Services, Frankfurt (EU), for pages, comments and files; Amazon Bedrock, same region, for the search index (trains no model). Email through Resend and payment through Stripe, both in the United States, under the EU standard contractual clauses as recognised by Switzerland; they see only what they need (your email address; your payment). They all process data only on our behalf. The work your Claude Code does goes from your machine to Anthropic under your own account, not through us.

Retention. Your content stays while your account exists. Deleted pages and accounts leave the live service at once and the backups within 30 days. Logs are kept 30 days, sign-in codes minutes.

Mail. Sign-in codes and notices about these terms and your account. No advertising, no analytics, no advertising cookies, no selling of data.

Your rights. Ask what we hold about you, have it corrected, exported (your pages are Markdown) or deleted: info@penwiki.com. You may complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner or, in the EU, to your data protection authority.
